What government support do I have?

Government support for hearing aids is not great for anyone over the age of 18. And by “not great,” we mean essentially nonexistent, as Tennessee does not offer any funding or resources to those suffering from hearing loss.

What support do my children have?

It’s a different story for minors, however, as they are offered $1,000 per hearing aid every 3 years. It won’t cover the whole cost of any newer model of hearing aid, but it’s obviously worth getting your hands on if you can!

What doctoral programs are available in Tennessee?

If you’re looking to study audiology in Tennessee, you’re in luck! Four separate schools offer audiology courses – these being East Tennessee State University, University of Memphis, University of Tennessee – Knoxville, and Vanderbilt University.

Support for military veterans

Hearing healthcare support for veterans is nationwide, with 170 centers across the country and three in Tennessee. Again, not a bad amount for a state of its size!

How can I get my hearing tested?

A hearing test is the first step towards better hearing health and you can get tested for free in your local area by filling in this form. You'll see a qualified hearing consultant who will run a series of tests to determine if you have any hearing loss, and if you do, show you the best options moving forward.

Overall

Tennessee doesn’t get a ten, but they do alright when protecting their ears. They have room to improve, and we’re looking forward to seeing where they go!
